Oily dandruff is a kind of nuisance which when happens bothers one a lot. Dandruff itself can be quite embarrassing and it can sometimes get difficult to deal with it. Sometimes dandruffs can also land on shoulders and if one is wearing a black or any deep coloured dress it can become quite prominently visible there.

But one can always use oily scalp and dandruff shampoo to get rid of those irritating white flakes. Before that one needs to know what exactly the root cause of formation of oily dandruffs is. Oily dandruff is kind of a medical condition which is also known as the seborrhoea dermatitis. This medical condition can affect the scalp adversely and leads to dandruff issues. There is also another fungus called Malassezia which can irritate one’s scalp and increase the production of oil there. This happen because of many reasons:

  • In a few cases, this condition is genetic. The problem runs in one’s family and one can suffer from that.
  • If one is not shampooing enough then it can lead to accumulation of dead skin cells on the scalp which can later turn to white flakes. Use of some personal care products can lead to this as well.
  • It is also said that hair and scalp health of an individual also depends on their everyday diet. Hence if one is having an unhealthy diet can lead to dandruff issues. Sometimes intake of alcohol matters a lot.
  • Dandruff can happen because of hormonal changes in the body as well.

When there is oily dandruff one can get to see oily flakes which lead to constant itch. But one has to treat this condition right away so that the scalp becomes flake-free. Here are some home remedies that one can use:

Baking Soda

One needs a table spoon of baking soda for this fix. This is a very common kitchen ingredient which is easily available and they can resolve oily dandruff issues. One has to rinse the hair with lukewarm water and then gently massage the hair and scalp with baking soda for a minute or two. Then one has to rinse it again with lukewarm water. This has to be done at least 3 times a week to get better results.

 Apple Cider Vinegar

This is one of the best remedy one can think of when it comes to oily dandruffs.  One has to take half a cup of water and mix 2 table spoons of ACV in it and then pour it on the scalp and then massage gently. Let it sit there for at least 10 minutes and then rinse it with lukewarm water. This process should be repeated frequently till one starts seeing results.


Fir oily dandruff, henna is very effective. Apart from that, the application of henna can soften the hair and restore lost shine. One can apply henna by adding some lemon juice to it as well. One can apply it and keep for 2 to 3 hours before washing it away with a mild shampoo. There is also shampoo for oily dandruff scalp available that one can use.
